Biobanking
The translational gastroenterology biobanking activities are part of the biothèque hospitalière universitaire de Liège (BHUL).
Our aims are to collect specific human material (blood derived products, biopsies, stools, living cells, microbiota samples…) at patient bedside and to control every steps of sample processing and storage. We use strict SOP and follow international guidelines (HUPO and international journals of proteomics) ensuring the constant and high quality of the samples collected enabling their downstream proteomic and metabolomic or exosome isolation and analysis. Sample aliquots and associated clinical data managements follow the Belgian laws obligations concerning traceability, protection of private life and the use of human material for research purposes.
Our database contains several hundreds of blood derived samples concerning IBDs, patients with adenoma, colorectal cancer patients and healthy controls. Clinical data are computed and stored under an anonymous basis and can be used for designing translational research projects and for performing correlation study with our specific new findings.
We also collect viable cells during colonoscopy or in collaboration with the digestive surgery and pathology department of CHU of Liège. These gut samples are crypts fractions enriched in viable stem cells and are used to generate organoids or tumoroids in in vitro culture and serve as translational models of IBD, healthy individual or CRC and CAC, to study the physiopathology of intestinal diseases.
